Two new television spots have been unveiled for Anton Corbijn’s ‘The American” with both marketing the film as fast-paced, ‘Bourne’-type flick with quick cuts and suspenseful music.
The film is, in fact, a creepy psychological suspense story that follows an assassin (George Clooney) to a rural village in southern Italy, where he poses as a quiet artist who paints miniatures of butterflies. He has one more assignment to carry out, but of course romantic entanglements and local friendships complicate his task. Thekla Reuten, Bruce Altman, Paolo Bonacelli, Irina Björklund and Violante Placido co-star.
“The American” has somewhat been blunted by bigger films with the movie and Clooney’s performance lost in any awards-season talk. Nevertheless, it’ll kick off the fall film season in a mere four weeks on September 3rd and will feature at this year’s Venice Film Festival.
