Got a Tip?

‘Twin Peaks’ Will Return With 18 Episodes, Angelo Badalamenti Composing All New Music

Twin PeaksNow that a détente has been reached between David Lynch and Showtime over the upcoming "Twin Peaks" revival, we can return to wondering just what’s going to be coming in the latest adventures of the cult TV show. And as promised, it will be bigger than anticipated.

During the "Twin Peaks" panel at Crypticon in Seattle, Sherilyn Fenn and Sheryl Lee revealed two big pieces of news: there will be eighteen new episodes of "Twin Peaks," all directed by David Lynch, and his longtime collaborator Angelo Badalamenti would be composing all new music. Yep, we’ll take a slice of cherry pie to go with that. This effectively doubles the nine episodes that were announced when the Showtime deal was first revealed, and suggests this will be more than just your standard waltz through the past.

Production is scheduled to begin in September, and yes, Twede’s Café in North Bend, Washington will once again stand in for Double R’s diner. No airdate yet for this but I’d hazard a guess at late 2016. [Welcome To Twin Peaks]

  1. Not to shit in the punch bowl but has Showtime confirmed that it\’s 18 episodes? Might Sherilyn Fenn be referring/confused about the announcement that the first and final episodes would have extended running times?

  2. That\’s a heavy dose of speculation, Lola. First of all, it\’s Showtime, so I\’m not sure why you think there\’s going to be advertisements. Secondly, there\’s no reason to assume that these episodes won\’t be 47-52 minutes long each, like almost every other premium cable series.

  3. Let me guess. The dispute was over budget, so they decided to cut the nine episodes from hour long episodes into half, thus giving us 18 half hour episodes. Maybe stretching those into 40 minute episodes. More episodes, more money from advertisers etc. Equals bigger budget. This is how they got Lynch back.

  4. There\’s a great moment in Robert Altman\’s A Wedding, the hippie black sheep bridesmaid at her sisters Long Island wedding searches in vain for a joint to lessen the WASP pain, to make matters worse during a power outage she\’s subjected to group carols, then out of the darkness one of the hired band passes over a joint and she bursts into song \’Hallelujah Jesus is mine\’. Well hallelujah, after ten years without a single Lynch film he returns with eighteen hours. Two more hours and he\’ll have bestowed us with a movie for each year he was absent.
