Got a Tip?

“Twilight” Star Robert Pattinson Calls Author Stephenie Meyers ‘Mad’; And Perhaps A Total Quack

The Playlist came across this E! Online interview with “Twilight” star/riot inciter/heartthrob Robert Pattinson. In the course of this unedited clip, Pattinson burps during an answer, flashes his pit stains and remains completely sexy enough that I’d at least make out with him. At the very end, however, the interviewer asks him the rather innocuous (and omnipresent) question of why people are so enamored with the world of “Twilight.” Pattinson responds by saying:

“…when I read [Twilight], it seemed like I was convinced [author] Stephenie [Meyers] was convinced she was [the book’s lead character] Bella and it was like it was a book that wasn’t supposed to be published. It was like reading her sexual fantasy, especially when she said it was based on a dream and it was like, ‘Oh I’ve had this dream about this really sexy guy,’ and she just writes this book about it. Some things about [Pattinson’s character] Edward are so specific, I was just convinced – I was like, ‘This woman is mad. She’s completely mad and she’s in love with her own fictional creation.'”

Um, could someone get this dude a copy of Anne Rice’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’ erotica series and The Beatles at Shea Stadium ASAP? While Breaking Dawn, the fourth book in the Twilight series is totally full on a Meyers sex fantasy fulfilled, the first book is down right prude (at least in a world where the Gossip Girl series is there as a how-to sex manual). Too prude, frankly – Meyers real life religious beliefs stopped her characters from having any fictional sex until they got married.

Is Meyers, however, in love with her own fictional creation and/or a nutter? Oh yes, without a doubt, and cemented by her pronouncement that Pattinson’s acting in the film is Oscar worthy.

Other people who are just a little bit in love with Robert Pattinson? Perhaps Pattinson himself, who tells our friends at the L.A. Times that he is personally making the film better with the inclusion of two of his songs in the movie. Pattinson goes on to say he’s not trying to gain a music career but is keeping the option open in case acting doesn’t work out. We laughed our asses off about that until we saw the news that the “Twilight” soundtrack came in at #1 on the Billboard charts this week with sales of over 164K copies – a feat that even “High School Musical 3” couldn’t accomplish earlier this fall. Interestingly, 29% of “Twilight” sales were digital, making it the second biggest week ever for digital sales of a soundtrack, second only to “High School Musical 2.”

We still prefer The Playlist’s alternate universe “Twilight” soundtrack.

Pattinson also mentions in the E! interview that he’s signed on for a “Twilight” trilogy, if such a thing should happen. Director Catherine Hardwicke tells MTV News that if “Twilight” makes $150M there will be a second “Twilight” movie for all you crazy women who are obsessive voyeurs in love with a fictional character. Pattinson will continue to find you disdainful while composing weepy little guitar dittys.

  1. Oh I’m sorry, do you prefer the guy-liner wearing, miserable, stalking, creepy, dismal and grim-faced fictional character to the sensible and decent person who exists in real life?
May all your relationships be plentiful and happy and your expectations never diminish.
P.S. I bet your boyfriend is fat

  2. Oh thank god he’s intelligent. Well, he’s smart enough to know the books suck, anyway. I mean, he might think Britney Spears is fantabulous, but he seems like a nice guy.
And he’s the same age as me, so I’m wondering if 20 year old English guys are just by nature smarter and more mature than 20 year old American guys.

By the way, the YouTube video of his song appears to no longer be working.

Anyway, the scruffy look isn’t too bad on him. He’s a pretty sexy guy, and I wish the Twilighters would pay attention to what he says; I mean, sure he’s pretty, but he keeps saying that he doesn’t understand why they like the books or Edward. When the guy playing the part says he doesn’t understand the fandom, maybe the fans should rethink their stance.

That being said, I still prefer Jared Paladecki all the way. ♥

  3. Twilight is a great book to get lost in..Just love it, and the movie is a great love story..I truly ejoyed it..For those people who dont have anything nice to say should not say anything at all..I love twilight.

  4. A great love story indeed, promoting controlling, disturbing relationships and the idea that it's okay to nerf your girl's car to stop her going to see her friends, leaving her at random 'because it's all my problem' (obviously), and the idea that being a creepy Mary-Sue dependent upon one's boyfriend for one's mental sanity is all beautiful, wonderful and perfectly normal.

Well, no wonder teenage girls are messed up. (And for goodness' sakes, I'm a teenage girl too! Please don't go on like 'but you don't understand, how could you ever understand us, noober?')

Although I have to say this… now I've seen this, I have so much respect for the guy. When an actor can't bring himself to lie about his own movie, that is truly lol-worthy. While I don't condone the people just flaming Twilight without reason– it is the fans' choice to read it and scream about it non-stop, and these are all my own views and I ask it of nobody to have to agree– I still think that it's an overrated novel, an enormously overrated, over-hyped film and that Ms. Meyer might be giving herself a slightly… ah, odd… public image, with this book.

Still, the novel gives me hope, because if Twilight got published, perhaps I'll be a writer too one day. <3

(…Also, Robert Pattinson looks so much cuter in real life as a normal guy than when he's in the film, working the 'Edward Scissorhands makeup' kind of look. Just a side-note. ;D)

  5. Okay, I thought all of the Twilight books were great. Let's get that straightened out, first. I do think that Meyer could be in love with Edward.. Who wouldn't? You grow attacehd to the characters as they develop in the series. There really isn't anything normal about the relationship between Bella and
Edward, but thats what makes it fun. Put into perspective that it IS indeed a FICTIONAL book. If fans are basing their entire lives off of a story that they have read, is it really the creater's fault? Don't think so. The fact that Meyer has introduced us to an insanely unique kind of vampire, is simply amazing. It's her thoughts, if she wants to have the vampires sparkle, then what the hell, let the vampires sparkle. Pattinson shouldn't be trashing the story, this is one of the biggest booms in his career that he has and may ever get. "So to him, I would say suck it up, If you have such negative thoughts, keep your mouth shut. Just stand there and look pretty. It's what you do best."… he is pretty =X! ha regardless… I think that everyone needs to accept thefact that Twilight is huge. Like it or not, its going to be around for a while.

  6. Great!? Did I hear somebody say these novels/moview were great?

Great is defined my literature that endures. Twilight is paperback trash that sparked the voracity of teens and 38-30+ middle aged women. It reminds me of The Titanic movie that got such bolstered ticket prices due to infatuation with DeCaprio.

The movies are lackluster at best.

I applaud your ability to be pleased and impressed by whatever is on the surface only. Good luck in letting that lead your life. Also, remind yourself that women are not supposed to be treated the way our heroine (wait, we need a plot to use that word, sorry!) is in this farce of writing.
