Got a Tip?

‘Twilight’ Star Edi Gathegi Joins ‘X-Men: First Class’ As Mutant Darwin

Alrighty, well it looks like Roger Friedman’s report turned out to be on the money. Taylor Lautner never ended up in “X-Men: First Class,” but 411 never said that was the case, only that they’d be looking to cast “Twilight”-esque actors.

Well, how about one straight from the series? It looks like Edi Gathegi, who plays the dreadlocked vampire Laurent in the Stephenie Meyer created series, has been cast in the project. According to Deadline, who’s really been leading the charge on ‘First Class’ aside from the aforementioned Friedman, Gathegi has been cast as the mutant Darwin in the Matthew Vaughn film. We’ll admit we’re unfamiliar with this character, but Wiki says he’s a biracial mutant with “reactive evolution” powers that lets him adapt to his environment.

Interestingly enough, Collider says Deadline still mentions Aaron Johnson (“Kick-Ass”) as a rumored connection to the character Cyclops, but perhaps the trade did a quick clean-up of their story as he’s not mentioned in the version that’s live right now (and its not google cached yet). Last we heard EW said Johnson was not going to appear in the film (at least as that character) and it’s been up for debate from several sources of late (THR placed the young actor in their Jennifer Lawrence/Mystique report and then quickly deleted him).

How many damn mutants are going to appear in this film? Didn’t Fox heed the warning of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”? Or are they trying to make it like “Twilight” with like two dozen teen characters that you can fall in love with? “X-Men: First Class” is scheduled to hit theaters June 3, 2011.
