As “Twilight” author Stephanie Meyer continues to build upon her Stephen King-like empire in the Young Adult world, with the supposedly adult-minded sci-fi novel “The Host” already set to make it to the big screen next March, she now looks to extended her notoriety by bringing other YA-friendly literature adaptation to the multiplex.
The 1974 Lois Duncan novel “Down A Dark Hall” will be optioned through Meyer and Meghan Hibbett’s Fickle Fish Films to be turned into a feature that revolves around a haunted and tragic boarding school named Blackwood that has a bevy of mysterious happenings and students within its prestigious halls. New student Kit Gordy becomes entangled in the school’s twisted web of mysteries, and makes an effort to unravel Blackwood’s history before things become too sinister. This isn’t Meyer’s first time in the producer's chair, and she'll be joined on this project by Wyck Godfrey, the man who pulled togther the "Twilight" movies. But before Meyer gets to this, she'll be wrapping up her producer duties on an adaptation of Shannon Hale’s “Austenland,” which has “Napoleon Dynamite” co-writer Jerusha Hess in the director’s chair.
There’s no mention as to when this could hit theaters, since after all It is only just being optioned, but we imagine with the premise it could either be a fun little teenage-minded excursion into genre, or something like “Gossip Girl” meets “Twilight.” We’ll hope for the former, and wait to hear more about this one.
