Got a Tip?

‘Tron: Legacy’ Director Joseph Kosinski Gets Reshoot Pages From Brad Bird & Michael Arndt; Eyes Sci-Fi ‘Archangels’

The “Tron: Legacy” director is certainly getting help for his debut film from high places. He recently told Empire magazine that David Fincher was giving him notes on the film’s rough cut and it appears he’s not the only high profile talent providing their two cents.

“The Incredibles” and “Ratatouille” writer/director Brad Bird and “Toy Story 3” writer Michael Arndt worked with the film’s original writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz to provide fresh script pages for six days of reshoots in June to improve “character, emotion, and theme.” For those of you worried the film might be in trouble, Disney President of Production Sean Bailey doesn’t seem to be fazed saying, “Tron is very much [director] Joe Kosinski’s vision, a vision which is thrilling to me and I hope is thrilling to the fans. What I give Joe and the filmmaking team immense credit for, is this was all born out of how do we give the fans the best movie we can. We were very fortunate that Pixar wanted to play a part in it.”

We can’t really remember the last time news about reshoots was not only addressed directly by a studio head but hasn’t be surrounded by worries and concerns. Either the film is being given some tremendous latitude from fans, or Disney is making sure they are making the best resources possible available to Kosinski for what is a lucrative franchise reboot. Perhaps it’s a bit of both.

Either way, Hollywood is happy with Kosinski as New Regency is currently prepping a new sci-fi project for the director. Titled “Archangels,” the film “is set in the near future and is described as a ‘Bourne’-style thriller crossed with alien elements. The protagonist is part of an elite force that is tasked with tracking aliens who get past Earth’s defense system.” You know what? That actually sounds kind of cool, but we’ll see if Kosinski has the chops to deliver when “Tron: Legacy” lights up the holiday season on December 17, 2010.
