In a new profile for the New York Times, it’s revealed that Soloway plans to continue “Transparent,” minus the lead actor, for one more season. However, instead of going the traditional route, the creator is going to end the final season with a feature-length musical episode. Soloway is apparently working with their sibling Faith and actress Shakina Nayfack on the music and lyrics for the episode.
“It will hopefully feel like ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ mixed with ‘La La Land’ mixed with ‘Flight of the Conchords’ with something more Jewish thrown in,” Soloway said. “A little ‘Yentl.’”
Earlier this year, it was reported that Soloway was given plenty of time and space to figure out how to continue the show without Tambor as the lead character, Maura Pfefferman. The loss of Tambor, while understandable considering his alleged on-set transgressions, was seen as potentially fatal for the series. “Transparent” tells the story of Maura as she and her family navigate life after coming out as a trans woman. Without Maura, many have wondered what the show even looks like.
