CinemaCon has had its share of big news coming out the event this week. One of the biggest? Paramount has its “Transformers” franchise back in gear, with “Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts” in theaters on June 9. And apparently, the studio’s plans for the franchise have just begun. The Playlist’s Gregory Ellwood reports that Paramount also has “Transformers One” in the pipeline, the first animated “Transformers” movie in almost 40 years.
And Paramount has a huge trio lined up to headline the voice cast of “Transformers One.” Chris Hemsworth, Brian Tyree Henry, and Scarlett Johansson will voice Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Elita in the animated prequel. The film follows the origins of the rivalry between the Autobots and the Decepticons and how Optimus Prime and Megatron became sworn enemies. In addition, Keegan-Michael Key returns to voice Bumblebee, along with Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
Variety has additional scoop on “Transformers One.” “Toy Story 4” director Josh Cooley will direct the film from a script by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. Steven Spielberg is on board to executive produce “Transformers One” with Brian Goldner, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer, and Valerii An. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian, and Aaron Dem.
It’s been a while since the heyday of the “Transformers” blockbusters, but with one film hitting theaters imminently and another on the way, Paramount has high hopes the franchise will return to form. “Transformers One” is set for a July 19, 2024 theatrical release.
