‘Tis the season for trying to keep bored kids occupied during the holidays (and beyond). Hollywood is here to help with a few movies to help pass the hours as the season gets colder and darker.
First up, Pixar and Disney are getting festive with The Day Of The Dead in “Coco.” The film is directed by Lee Unkrich (“Toy Story 3”), co-directed by Adrian Molina (a story artist for “Monsters University”) and features the voices of Anthony Gonzalez, Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Edward James Olmos, and Gabriel Iglesias. Here’s the official synopsis:
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself magically transported to the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Were you patiently awaiting a sequel for “Gnomeo & Juliet“? Yeah, we weren’t either and, frankly, we sort of forgot the movie existed. But the followup brings a Sherlock into the things for some reason, along with the voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Ashley Jensen, Matt Lucas, Stephen Merchant, Mary J. Blige and Johnny Depp. Here’s the official synopsis:
The beloved garden gnomes from GNOMEO AND JULIET are back for a whole new adventure in London. When Gnomeo and Juliet first arrive in the city with their friends and family, their biggest concern is getting their new garden ready for spring. However, they soon discover that someone is kidnapping garden gnomes all over London. When Gnomeo and Juliet return home to find that everyone in their garden is missing – there’s only one gnome to call… SHERLOCK GNOMES. The famous detective and sworn protector of London’s garden gnomes arrives with his sidekick Watson to investigate the case. The mystery will lead our gnomes on a rollicking adventure where they will meet all new ornaments and explore an undiscovered side of the city.
Lastly, childhoods may get ruined with “Peter Rabbit,” which brings James Corden and Domhnall Gleeson into this live-action animated take of the beloved kids’ classic. Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Debicki, and Daisy Ridley also lend their voices. Here’s the synopsis:
In Peter Rabbit™, the mischievous and adventurous hero who has captivated generations of readers now takes on the starring role of his own contemporary comedy. In the film, Peter’s feud with Mr. McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson) escalates to greater heights than ever before as their fight to gain control of McGregor’s coveted vegetable garden and the affections of the warm-hearted animal lover who lives next door (Rose Byrne) extends to the Lake District and London.
“Coco” opens on November 22nd, “Sherlock Gnomes” arrives on March 23, 2018 and “Peter Rabbit” hops into the multiplex on February 9, 2018.
