If you think about, aside from “The Iron Lady” starring Meryl Streep and Jason Reitman‘s “Young Adult,” the only other film from the 2011 Oscar season we haven’t seen much so far from (i.e. a trailer) is “My Week with Marilyn” starring Michelle Williams. And come Sunday, press at the New York Film Festival (including us) will finally get a chance to feast their eyes on the film.
And with that screening on the near horizon, the trailer for the film has just arrived. Directed by Simon Curtis (known for TV work “Cranford,” the TV movie “David Copperfield“), the drama centers on Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier‘s, who documented the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of “The Prince and the Showgirl” during the late 1950s. Co-starring Eddie Redmayne, who plays Colin Clark, and Kenneth Branagh, who plays Olivier, the picture also stars Dougray Scott, Judi Dench, Julia Ormond, Derek Jacobi, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones and Emma Watson.
Oscar bait? Hmm, that’s for debate and this writer isn’t so sure. An interesting love story filled with a powerhouse cast? Inarguable. Our gut says Oscars are probably not in the cards by the looks of the trailer (for what that’s worth, it’s just a trailer), but The Weinstein Company, who is releasing the film on November 4, will surely be pushing Michelle Williams for a Best Actress nomination. It would be her third Oscar nom after “Blue Valentine” and her supporting nod for “Brokeback Mountain,” and likely the third of many more nominations to come. Trailer below the jump.

When will Michelle Williams stop portraying the same weak characters ? I want her to portray more dark, aggressive, & forceful characters.
Where is Julia Ormond? I was actually looking forward to seeing if they made her resemble Vivien Leigh.
On another note I still don\’t think there is an actress who has or can portray Marilyn Monroe. Williams looks a bit like her, but her voice isn\’t even close.
I dunno, I think The Playlist got it pretty right here. It looks like Oscar \”bait,\” sure, but not like a really great movie. It just looks too sentimental and heavy-handed. Michelle Williams is usually great, but I didn\’t feel like I was really seeing Marilyn, and it all seems like something we\’ve seen plenty of times before. It may get a few nominations, but I highly doubt a Best Pic nom is in the cards here.
That was pretty \’meh\’. Williams is usually great so a Best Actress nom for her is a big possibility but the movie itself might actually hurt her chances of winning.

Jesus Christ, that was annoying to watch with all the FADE TO BLACK cuts. It was like I was being forced to blink every 2 seconds. Fucking hell, trailers are shit these days. They can\’t just cut to another scene, they have to fade out in rapid succession.
Yeah, this is pretty Oscar baity. And it looks pretty good too.

By the looks of this trailer, all I can say is: Oscar, Oscar, here \”My Week With Marilyn\” this way comes. This will be nothing short of extraordinary.
And the trailer was riveting on all accounts.
I think its safe to say your opinion holds no merit because if God himself, or sheer perfection, edited this trailer convinced you still would be not.
