The first trailer has just been released for the upcoming Marvel TV show “Cloak & Dagger,” which will premiere on Freeform June 7th. This marks the first time that Marvel and Freeform are teaming up, while they are also developing a half hour comedy series “New Warriors” to be released sometime later this year. “Cloak and Dagger” follows two teens falling in love while also, you know, being superheroes. Here’s a synopsis from Variety:
“Described as a superhero love story, Cloak and Dagger is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including Spiderman and X-Men stories. The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.”
The show is created and showrun by former “Heroes” writer Joe Pokaski, with the pilot episode directed by “Beyond the Lights” filmmaker Gina Prince-Bythewood. Olivia Holt will play Tandy Bowen/Dagger co-starring with Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak. Additional cast includes Andrea Roth, Gloria Reuben, J.D Evermore, and Jaime Zevallos.
