Look, with all due respect to Topher Grace, as he is a fine talent that is really smart and passionate about film (why else would you spend hours re-editing the ‘Star Wars’ franchise?), he’s not a “normal” celebrity actor guy. And that perception only gets validated further after hearing him talk about an incident between he and a fan during a screening of the oft-forgotten “Predators.”
Speaking to PeopleTV, Grace talked about a particular screening for the 2010 sci-fi action film, “Predators.” In the film, the actor plays a character that is revealed to be a bit of a madman murderer, but there was one scene that took a lot of emotional output from Grace that caused a heckler in the theater to speak up and annoy him. Grace said that he was sitting in front of a “macho dude” during a scene when the character is revealed to be a bad guy and starts crying.
“My character starts crying because his foot’s in a trap and you kind of have to feel for him and then it’s revealed that he’s a psycho,” explained Grace. “And so, I start crying. It was a hard day at work for me to like, get there and also you’re playing two different characters, kind of. So, I’m watching this film in the movie theater and this guy goes, ‘This guy’s crying like a little bitch!”
He added, “I turnaround and I go, ‘What’s up now?’ And this guy’s mind exploded. He was like, ‘Oh my God! You’re here and you’re on the [screen]. I think it was the most scared I’d ever seen someone in a movie theater because he like realized I was [the movie] serial killer and then I turned around in front of him. … He started crying, it was great.”
While also being a funny story, we can also safely say this was likely the only screening of “Predators” that elicited so many tears from audience members, as the film is largely, uh, not great. But with stories like this, Topher Grace better watch out—he might just turn into the next Bill Murray and before you know it, steal french fries from people’s plates and do other outrageous things in public. Honestly, when you think about that possibility, perhaps Topher Grace should be more like Bill Murray? Yeah, he definitely should.
