While the search for the new James Bond begins in 2022, there’s one actor, who fans enjoy quite a bit, out there talking about how he wouldn’t mind the job. Though, he does understand that he might be a bit too young. That said, it appears that Tom Holland is not only interested in playing James Bond, but the ‘Spider-Man’ star already pitched the studio on a Bond origin story that eventually turned into him landing another action franchise.
Speaking to Total Film, Tom Holland explained how he already had a meeting about James Bond, though not in the hopes of taking over for Daniel Craig. Instead, the young A-lister was hoping to pitch a young Bond film. Unfortunately for him, that pitch didn’t go well. But it did end up landing him “Uncharted.”
“I had a meeting, after or during ‘Spider-Man 2 [Far From Home],’ with Sony to pitch this idea of a young Bond film that I’d come up with,” Holland revealed. “It was the origin story of James Bond. It didn’t really make sense. It didn’t work. It was the dream of a young kid, and I don’t think the Bond estate were particularly interested.”
He added, “The idea of a young Bond film sparked this idea, in turn, that you could do a Nathan Drake story as an origin story, rather than as an addition to the games. And that opened a conversation.”
On paper, there isn’t a whole lot that connects the story of James Bond with that of the “Uncharted” video game franchise. Of course, in the eyes of Sony, it’s all franchise IP with action and adventure, so same-same, right? In this case, instead of Holland playing a young Bond, he gets to play a young Indiana Jones-esque adventurer. Either way, Sony wins.
We’ll have to see if “Uncharted” is able to become the next huge franchise for Holland when it debuts next month. The young actor is coming off the biggest film of his career, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (sure, he was in “Avengers: Endgame,” but not in a starring role), so it would appear he can do no wrong right now.
As for James Bond? Who knows? Maybe Sony and the Bond producers are willing to give young Holland a shot now that he’s proven himself to be one of the most consistent box office draws out there.
