They say patience is a virtue, and in the world of film development, that's especially true. While "Black Wings Has My Angel" may seem new, this one has actually been brewing since around 2007. A couple of years ago, Elijah Wood signed on to the hardboiled pic and then word when quiet, but it finally looks like the pieces are coming together.
Tom Hiddleston and Anna Paquin have joined the long-gestating film, that will once again find Wood ditching his nice guy image for something a little grittier. Based on the novel by Elliot Chaze, the story centers on the ex-con anti-hero of the film, Tim Sunblade (Hiddleston), who teams up with Virginia (Paquin), a call girl he meets in a backwoods Mississippi motel for a daring armored car robbery in Colorado. No word yet on Wood's role, but the material sounds perfectly lean and mean.
Barry Gifford ("Wild At Heart," "Lost Highway"), Christopher Peditto and Alfonso Pineda Ulloa penned the screenplay, with the latter also making his English language directing debut. Filming is set to begin in September, and this sounds like a solid piece of B-movie pulp with a great cast assembled. 'Black Wings' has definitely flown onto our radar as one to watch. [Screen Daily]
Producer Tony Moody here. Just want to clear up some misinformation on this one. Elijah hadn't ever signed on for the lead, and in fact was initially involved only as a producer. Tom Hiddleston and Anna Paquin are cast as the leading man and lady – Tim and Virginia. Elijah is in a supporting role…
It's taken a while, but hopefully will all be worth it in the end!
