Tom Hardy is one of our finest actors, one who immerses himself in roles and projects as small as "Locke" and as huge as the upcoming "Mad Max: Fury Road." But he is also a dude we totally want to hang with, especially since it appears he’s fan of handing out homemade bracelets.
In a lengthy, must-read interview in Details, the actor reveals that he did talk to Mel Gibson before signing up to play the lead in ‘Fury Road,’ but it seemed the veteran was ambivalent about it.
"He was bored with me. He said, ‘All right, buddy, good luck with that.’ Bless him," Hardy said. "I made him a bracelet. And then we talked for a couple of hours about all kinds of stuff. I left, and that was that. And then he called up my agent and said, ‘I think you found someone that’s crazier than I am.’ "
When asked about the same meeting by JoBlo (watch below) at CinemaCon — "Did you get any inspiration or did he make you feel any better about taking the role?" — Hardy’s answer says it all: "No, absolutely not. In a nutshell, no. [starts laughing]"

Meanwhile, Hardy’s chat with the magazine reveals even more great stuff, including the tidbit that he went to the same drama school as Michael Fassbender. Even way back then, the actor’s talent was more than apparent.
"Mikey Fassbender, he was in the third year, and he was, like, the shit," Hardy enthused. "And he was in this wheelchair, ’cause his character is in a wheelchair. We had, like, half an hour for lunch, a half an hour to feed the whole school. We had this little canteen, Barbara’s canteen, and Mikey would be holding up the whole queue ’cause he wouldn’t get out of his fucking wheelchair. That’s the kind of school I went to. ‘Mikey, man, just stand the fuck up and order your lunch so we can go back to school, so we don’t get thrown out at the end of the week.’ And he’d be like, ‘Fuck you!’ It was awesome. I’ve got mad respect for him. I’d love to go up against him on stage."
And hell yes, someone please make that happen immediately.
"Mad Max: Fury Road" arrives on May 15th. Check out the JoBlo interview and a TV spot below.

Fassy riffing off one iconic O\’toole isn\’t enough? *Sauver les enfants*
Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy in Becket. Make it happen, Hollywood!
Kevin doesn\’t hang out with Johnny Depp. He wants to be with the cool kids.
*turned down "Gladiator" – sheesh, typo city!
No, Mel didn\’t want to do another one, but he had been interested in producing a reboot with Miller till it fell through. He trued down "Gladiator"as well. He just outright said he was too old for these roles.
Lol great article! I wonder if Mel was upset bc he was still hoping he might be in another Mad Max
