Tom Hardy Gives Us A First Look At His Dramatic Transformation Into Al Capone For ‘Fonzo’

We’ve said it a couple times before, but we feel like we must reiterate – you really need to follow Tom Hardy on Instagram.

The actor, best known for throwing himself headfirst into his roles, is in the middle of filming the upcoming Al Capone film, “Fonzo,” and it seems like every day he’s on Instagram posting gold from the set. What makes his recent batch of photos so fun is how it covers the physical transformation that Hardy is undergoing for the film.

“Fonzo” isn’t your typical Al Capone film. The story follows Capone, as he approaches his 50s, and is begging to suffer from dementia. And as you probably know from seeing Tom Hardy’s face in every day life, he definitely doesn’t look like a man who is in middle age and suffering from a debilitating mental illness. So, as we see in his Instagram pictures, Hardy goes through a pretty rigorous makeup application to look like the grizzled former crime boss.

In the pictures, we see a Tom Hardy with disheveled hair, and a pretty ridiculous scar on his cheek. Frankly, it looks great! Perhaps the best picture of the bunch isn’t even the best look at Hardy’s makeup. Instead, it’s a posed picture that could be used as the cover of Al Capone’s upcoming rap album. In the post, we see Hardy, as Capone, off the side, with comedian Neal Brennan (set to play Capone’s lawyer), and one-half of Run the Jewels, El-P.

Overall, Hardy is becoming quite the hype man for “Fonzo,” and we have to admit, it’s working. While we still have our reservations about anything written and directed by Josh Trank, so far, all the behind-the-scenes photos lead us to believe that there might be hope for this film.
