Across five films, Tom Cruise and Paramount pretty much had an easygoing relationship when it came to the “Mission: Impossible” franchise: the studio would pay the actor handsomely, he’d tell the stunt team to chill and then go hang off a jet plane or jump off a tall building, they’d put all his action shots together, call it a movie, and everyone would make a pile of movie. However, after “Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” there seemed to be a wrench thrown into the machine. A disagreement about money flared up causing production on “Mission: Impossible 6” to come to halt, but it appears that everyone is friends again.

THR reports that Cruise is getting ready to sign on the dotted line for “Mission: Impossible 6” with everyone now totally cool about the cash on the table. It was previously reported that the dispute involved Paramount wanting Cruise, Bad Robot and Skydance to cut down their fees or Cruise wanting the studio to match what he was getting from Universal for “The Mummy.” Of course, we’re not privy to what Paramount and Cruise eventually agreed on, but I’m sure the latter will still be able to buy a small island with whatever check he’s clearing.
Christopher McQuarrie is still on board to write and direct, the filming on “Mission: Impossible 6” will now kick off next spring.
Cruise has hardly had a smooth run with Paramount, historically.
