Tom Cruise has seemingly been using his blockbuster “Mission: Impossible” film franchise to work out his need to flirt with death. Each subsequent sequel ups the ante in terms of danger as the A-lister continues to try to outdo himself in an attempt to defy his own mortality. And according to the actor, a specific stunt in the forthcoming “Mission: Impossible 7” is the most dangerous of his career to date.
Speaking to Empire, Cruise broke down a new stunt that sees the actor ride a motorcycle off of a cliff. No, there’s no CGI at play. And no, he doesn’t ride the motorcycle to the edge and then let a stunt double take over. Much like the previous “Mission: Impossible” films, Cruise takes it upon himself to do the death-defying stuntwork. And this one is especially dangerous as it involves a motorcycle, a cliff, a parachute, and a helicopter near him filming the whole time. You can probably see how this could end badly, huh?
“If the wind was too strong, it would blow me off the ramp,” Cruise said. “The helicopter [filming the stunt] was a problem because I didn’t want to be hammering down that ramp at top speed and get hit by a stone. Or if I departed in a weird way, we didn’t know what was going to happen with the bike. I had about six seconds once I departed the ramp to pull the chute and I don’t want to get tangled in the bike. If I do, that’s not going to end well.”
In a first-look image, you can see the behind-the-scenes situation with Cruise on the bike, getting ready to film the stunt. As much as it’s fun to see the actor risk his own body for the spy franchise, it’s also fascinating to witness the evolution of how crazy Cruise gets with each and every “Mission: Impossible” stunt. Who knows what’s in store for “Mission: Impossible 8?”
