New trend? It wasn't that long ago that Tina Fey's "Date Night" director Shawn Levy announced he was going to spend this summer making "The Internship" with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. And now another movie about low-level, underappreciated grunt work.
Deadline reports that writer/director Nancy Meyers and Fey will team for "The Intern." The story will feature Fey playing the founder of a fashion based e-commerce company (how New Millenium!) who agrees to a community outreach program where seniors will intern at the firm. But wait, they're not college seniors but **RECORD SCRATCH** actual old people. The title actually refers to a 70-year-old character who eventually becomes indispensable at the firm, and a friendship between the harried founder and this old timer with a second chance is forged. Awww. Meyers apparently already has someone in mind for that role, but won't say who. Our guess? Maybe Jack Nicholson, who starred in "Something's Gotta Give." Either way this all sounds like a big screen version of that "Seinfeld" episode where Morty starts working in Elaine's office.
But hold up — this one may be a way off. Late yesterday came news that Meyers was also lining up "The Chelsea" with Felicity Jones, and that still may roll first. Fey's schedule is pretty packed and this wouldn't be able to shoot until 2013 anyway. But the pairing of Fey and Meyer is a no-brainer as they both share similar sensibilities, and we definitely see the pair raising each other's game, even if the premise is a bit hokey.
Don't do it, Tina!!!!! You're better than that!
