Much like “Entourage” did for Hollywood, HBO’s “Ballers” offers viewers a glimpse inside the world of sports, focusing on a group of football players and their families, friends, and handlers. Set in Miami, Dwayne Johnson plays Spencer Strasmore, a retired player who’s reinvented himself as a financial manager, giving “The Rock” plenty of moments to strut around looking super-sleek in very well-tailored suits.

For a show that might have slipped through the cracks for many people, the first season of “Ballers” was HBO’s most-watched comedy in six years, averaging roughly nine million viewers per episode. The second season followed Spencer as he spiraled toward rock bottom, a direction that seemed at odds with the “good guy” the show had been portraying him as.
The third season will give Spencer the opportunity to change—but will that change be for better or worse? We’ll find out when “Ballers” returns to HBO on July 23rd.
