After a long exhaustive search Tim Burton has cast teen Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who has previously held roles in HBO’s therapy whine-fest “In Treatment”and the Aussie hospital drama “All Saints,” in his upcoming adaptation of the classic “Alice in Wonderland“story. (how is it that it took him this long to tell this tale?) Burton’s take on Lewis Carroll’s classic novel is sure to be strange, and will include his goth-queen wife Helena Bonham Carter in some capacity, no? (frankly we are surprised she wasn’t cast as Alice)
A young and relatively inexperienced actress for such a major motion picture, let’s hope since Disney is producing no awkward “leaked” pictures find their way online anytime soon (See: Miley Cyrus; much like that little tart’s films, the picture will be live-action using performance-capture footage and presented in Disney Digital 3-D).
Even though her upcoming projects include the War World II picture “Defiance,” in which she will be opposite Daniel Craig and she’ll be portraying the young Amelia Earhart in 2009’s “Amelia,” there’s still the question of will she be able to handle the Disney heat or will she crumble under the immense amount of pressure they place on young, fragile actresses and end up going all Lohan on us?
There’s no date set on the picture yet, but given all the above, we’re thinking sometime 2010 or Xmas 2009.
Helena Bonham Carter would make an awesome Queen of Hearts. 🙂
Burton knows what he is doing. He cast this unknown because there is nothing more annoying than seeing some overused girl try and play innocence…when this girl will actually possess it. Disney is Disney and isnt stupid…they wouldnt dare control Burton to an extent where he would walk away. There will never be a lohan in the role of alice…
and truely i dont even understand the hostility and last half of the blog…
have a little faith
