Got a Tip?

Tim Burton’s ‘Big Eyes’ Set For Xmas Day; ‘Eleanor Rigby’ & ‘Imitation Game’ Land Fall Release Dates

The Imitation Game

We’re nearing the halfway mark of the year, but as per usual, Hollywood tends to stuff the quality material in the back end of the calendar, and today there are some release date changes you should definitely be marking down.

First up, Tim Burton‘s return to drama with “Big Eyes” has landed a Christmas Day release date. The Weinstein Company are clearly hoping for big things from the Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz led drama, telling the true story of kitsch painter Margaret Keane, and the ensuing scandal when it emerged that her husband had taken credit for much of her career, leading to a showdown in court. Certainly, this is one to keep an eye on for Oscar consideration.

Speaking of which, The Weinstein Company have slotted the already buzzed about “The Imitation Game” starring Benedict Cumberbatch for November 21st. The Morten Tyldum (“Headhunters“) directed effort will chronicle the life Alan Turing, who in addition to his wartime achievements, helped advance modern technology with his explorations into early computer design, while also facing persecution for his homosexuality.

Debuting as two films last fall at TIFF as a work-in-progress, but unveiling in finished form at Cannes next month as one picture, “The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby” starring James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain will land in cinemas on September 26th. Will we ever see those two movies again? Let’s hope.

Other dates: “Goosebumps” will arrive on August 7, 2015; the “Ben-Hur” remake on February 26, 2016 and “The Smurfs 3” on August 5, 2016.
