So, it appears that after “The French Dispatch” arrives this fall, Wes Anderson isn’t ready to depart Europe. According to Variety, the filmmaker will be traveling to Spain for a new feature later this year.
In a new interview with Tilda Swinton, the actress revealed that not only is she starring in the new, untitled Wes Anderson film, but the feature is actually going to begin production in September in Spain. Though, she is quick to point out that, unlike ‘French Dispatch’ and France, this new film is “not about Spain.” Of course, Variety asked Anderson to spill the details about his new feature, but the filmmaker said he’s “not ready to share any details.”
As great as it is for film fans to know Wes Anderson isn’t resting much between features and will begin work on a new film, it’s not all tha shocking that he’s doing so with Tilda Swinton. The actress is no stranger to the whimsy of an Anderson feature, appearing in “Moonrise Kingdom,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Isle of Dogs,” and the aforementioned, “The French Dispatch.” She’s quickly moving up the ranking of actors that have collaborated the most with the filmmaker.
Also, it’s worth mentioning, the new film reportedly was expected to film in Rome, but the production has since moved to a small town near Madrid in Spain. Though, the report claims the film isn’t necessarily going to be a Western. (Longtime fans of Anderson will know that he’s had an idea for a Western that he’s been mulling for years, as was recently discussed on The Playlist Podcast interview with Luke Wilson.)

So, when will film fans be graced by yet another Wes Anderson film in theaters? Well, after “The French Dispatch” debuts on October 22, it appears that the new, untitled film could very well debut in mid-to-late 2022. We’ll just have to wait and see.
