Got a Tip?

Tilda Swinton Was Eyed For Pennywise In ‘It’

It’s an unwritten but widely acknowledged rule that a movie is instantly better the moment Tilda Swinton shows up. The tremendously talented actress can do it all. There is no character too broad, or portrayal too subdued that she can’t handle. So, it’s really not all that surprising that the Oscar winner was considered for a key role in the highly anticipated “It.”

Producer Barbara Muschietti has revealed that Swinton was someone they eyed to play Pennywise — yes, the evil clown — in “It.” No, seriously.

“I swear to God,” she said. “We had a slot to shoot the movie and she wasn’t available, so she didn’t even audition. But of course, we all thought about her.” I don’t know, I’d move heaven and earth to get Swinton to play a villainous clown, but that’s just me.

In the end, Bill Skarsgard was hired for the job, and he was great and looks to be doing justice to the role, and blah blah blah, but he’s not Tilda, sorry.

“Bill came in and blew our socks off,” Barbara said. “Because he was doing his very own interpretation of Pennywise, very erudite…very, very familiar with the novel and with Pennywise in the novel, which for us was a huge help, because we went into the casting process with the book in mind.”
