OK, that’s time the last time we read and trust the German press (or try and translate what they say by Babelfish and trusting dubious sources). The local German paper the Berliner Kurier had reported that German actor Daniel Brühl, had bested Til Schweiger for a role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious Bastards,” (we’re still not sure which role it is), but apparently this is not the case.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the German Schweiger (“King Arthur,” “Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life,” an excellent turn in “SLC Punk“) has nabbed a role, but not as a Nazi villain as many of us had suspected, but instead as one of ‘Basterd’ soldier’s headed by Brad Pitt’s character, Lt. Aldo Raine.
It seems a little odd at first, but in the ‘Inglorious’ scripts there are supposed to be German Jew soldiers that speak perfect Deutsch, so this means Schweiger will likely play one of the battalion members in an excellent bar sequence midway through the film.
As previously reported, Diane Kruger (“National Treasure: Book of Secrets”), German TV actor Christoph Waltz, and wet behind the ears comedian, Paul Rust, have all been added to the cast. The Hollywood Reporter also confirms that Daniel Brühl (star of “Goodbye Lenin”) has actually been cast in “Inglorious Bastards,” which is good because if he hadn’t been he would felt rather foolish, as he’s been talking about it to the German press non-stop and like it’s a done deal. We’ve griped about many of the casting choices so far, but Schweiger and Brühl are aces.
Schweiger could either play the soldier Wilhelm Wiki or the Bastard solider Hugo Stiglitz, but our guess it its the latter, as Stiglitz is a little bit psychotic and probably a good bet, but this is just an educated guess. Brühl could be a German Jew Bastard good guy for all we know too.
