Got a Tip?

TIFF Rounds Out Slate With Films From Dardennes, Aki Kaurismäki, Jonathan Demme, Gus Van Sant, More

TIFF has finalized their already impressive slate for 2011, and if you didn’t get a chance to hit the Croisette this year, you can catch the highlights in Toronto.

While there were no last-minute surprises to be had, international film fans will be in for a treat as there are some notable additions to the lineup: the Dardennes strike a familiar but no less winning tone with “The Kid With A Bike“; one of this writer’s favorite films so far this year, Aki Kaurismäki‘s humanist and hilarious “Le Havre” will bow; Bela Tarr makes a last stand with “The Turin Horse” his final film; Robert Guédiguian will track a couple in crisis in “Snows of Kilimanjaro” while Bruno Dumont will confound audiences with “Outside Satan.” Other international faves making trips to Toronto include Chantal Akerman‘s “Almayer’s Folly” and Alexander Sokurov‘s “Faust.”

Also set to appear is Gus Van Sant‘s twee “Restless,” the Sundance hit “Pariah” and Jonathan Demme will unveil his third Neil Young documentary “Neil Young Life.” The documentary chronicles Young’s return to Massey Hall as part of his “Le Noise” tour, along with footage from a roadtrip through Ontario. The film will be presented at the Princess of Wales Theatre followed by a coversation with Demme and Young.

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 8 to 18. Full details over at their site.
