With the Toronto International Film Festival less than a month away, it’s time for the folks at TIFF to announce the rest of their lineups for the various sections of the event. We’ve already seen what’s playing in the main competition, and today, they already announced the Midnight Madness program. But now, we have the lineups for the TIFF Docs, Discovery, and Cinematheque programs, as well.
The TIFF Docs lineup has an international feel to it, with 18 countries represented in the 25 films, with 18 of those screenings being World Premieres. One of the docs having its world premiere at TIFF is the new film “Women Make Film,” from director Mark Cousins, which is described as a “14-hour exploration of female directors around the world.” Bryce Dallas Howard also debuts her new doc, simply titled “Dads.”
“This year’s program captures characters you’ll never forget: lovers, fighters, dancers, athletes, despots, rebels, hustlers, and heroes,” said Thom Powers, serving his 14th year as TIFF Docs programmer this Festival. “We’ll be talking about these films for a long time to come.”
In addition to the TIFF Docs lineup, the event also announced the lineup for the Discovery program, which compiles 37 films from emerging filmmakers representing 35 countries, as well as the Cinematheque program, which shows 35mm screenings of some of the best films from the past, with connections to the festival.
The 2019 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival begins on September 5.
