Got a Tip?

Ti West Shot An ‘X’ Prequel Film In Secret & Will Premiere Footage For Theatrical Audiences

Ti West is no stranger to horror films. He’s also no stranger to low-budget indies. So, it makes sense that his latest film, “X” is, well, a low-budget, indie horror film. And when you have that sort of indie filmmaker mindset, and a penchant for keeping your costs down, you can go ahead and make another film in secret.

According to A24, Ti West isn’t done with the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”-inspired world he created in “X” and has already shot a prequel film, in secret. The exact plot details for the prequel are unknown at this time, but “X” tells the story of a group of young filmmakers who come to a secluded location to shoot an adult film. However, while there, they begin to be stalked and violently attacked by a mysterious stranger.

“X” features a cast that includes Mia Goth, Kid Cudi, Brittany Snow, and Jenna Ortega. Apparently, Goth is set to return to the prequel, reprising her role from “X.” No release date has been announced, but filming has already been completed and the film is currently in post-production. Does that mean we’ll see the prequel film later this year? It sure does sound like it, especially if “X” is a big hit in theaters.

“X” recently made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival. In our review of the film, we said, “With its shout-outs to horror classics and juicy pay-offs of its own, ‘X’ feels like the movie West was born to make.”

If you’re interested in checking out some footage from the prequel, A24 is going to screen some of that footage when “X” debuts in theaters this Friday.

Here’s the trailer for “X” to refresh your memory:
