Got a Tip?

Three Oscar Awards Begats A Fourth ‘Bourne’ Film With Matt Damon?

Last night, many people were suprised (and angered when it came to their losing Oscar pools), that Paul Greengrass’ “The Bourne Ultimatum,” took home three awards – just one less than the night’s big winner, “No Country For Old Men.”

‘Bourne’ swept the sound categories and even took best editing which generally is reserved for the film that wins Best Picture. However, Bourne won the Eddie’s a few weeks earlier – the Editing Guild’s top honor – so perhaps it wasn’t a total surprise to those paying attention (and it seems doubtful that the Academy would give the award to a pseudonymn – ‘No Country’ “editor” Roderick Jaynes is actually Ethan And Joel Coen).

With all that success and critical accolades, some might think the timing is rather convenient for another installment in the everyman, spy game franchise, but on Friday, it was announced that Universal would be going ahead with a fourth ‘Bourne’ film.

Not many details were given and both Greengrass and Damon seemed pretty content to let the series finish with three films at the time of ‘Ultimatum’s press, but it appears Universal (and perhaps $$ have changed their minds) and the two key players in the franchise are back onboard.

Maybe Universal slipped PriceWaterhouse a fin, so they could look at the Oscar ballot results early. Either way, it’s well-timed and someone’s going to look good for it (probably someone’s agent). [via Empire]
