Got a Tip?

‘The Thing’ Sets April 29, 2011 Release Date; ‘Priest’ Moves (Again) To May 13, 2011; ‘The Last Airbender’ Moves Up A Day & More

Here is an update on some release dates news and shuffles:

“The Thing” prequel has been given with a pretty decent April 29, 2011 release date, that perhaps signals Universal’s confidence in the film being a decent spring performer. The prequel to John Carpenter’s classic film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who plays Ramona Flowers in “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”) and will focus on the team of Norwegian scientists who first discover uh, the thing. The film was marks the feature debut by commercial director Matthijs Van Heijningsen.

Screen Gems has been having trouble figuring out what to do Scott Stewart’s “Priest.” The film has already had three different release dates and has been converted to 3D, but its now set to hit theaters on May 13, 2011 serving as some counter-programming to the Judd Apatow produced comedy “Bridesmaids.” Another tepid film with Paul Bettany, “Priest” is a comic book adaptation in which “a warrior priest (Bettany) disobeys Church law by teaming with a young sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and a beautiful priestess (Maggie Q). The three band together to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest’s niece before they turn her into one of them.” Sigh.

Paramount has moved the “The Last Airbender” up one day to July 1st. It will now open one day after “Twilight: Eclipse” with both films looking to bring in prime July 4th weekend bucks. Despite some dazzling trailers we still don’t know what it’s about, but we guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Finally Michel Gondry’s “Green Hornet,” as previously announced, will now hit theaters on January 14th after undergoing a 3D conversion. So no surprise, the film will also hit IMAX 3D screens on the same day as well.
