We’re not particularly thrilled about a remake of "Poltergeist." The PG-rated ’80s scare flick directed by Tobe Hooper with a lot of on-set input from co-writer and producer Steven Spielberg was a defining film of the decade, with the phrase "they’re here" sending more chills down the spine than any R-rated splatterfest of the time. So why redo it? Because they can, but we’ll give the team behind this film credit for putting their best foot forward.
Gil Kenan ("Monster House") takes the helm with a script from Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire ("Rabbit Hole") and a solid cast of players including Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, and Nicholas Braun. But do all of those ingredients come together to make a worthy sucessor to the ’80s classic? You get judge for yourself as the first trailer has arrived from the spooky dimension of movie marketing. Does it work? Or is it just a pale rehash of what came before?
"Poltergeist" arrives on July 24th.
Do the younger cast members know about the
\’Curse\’?
Do to an illness I spent the winter watching horror movies. "Poltergeist" in the 1980s was fresh. Today they mined it of all its best moments. There isn\’t a single scene in this trailer I didn\’t already see in my wintry horror maraton… Sorry for the spelling, I\’m Italian 🙂
My teens and I will stay home and watch the original on the flatscreen. Twice.
Seems … unnecessary. Rather a repeat of the original rather than anything new.
No, there\’s is already an Insidious 3 coming out this summer. This is the sequel to Sinister isn\’t it?
I can\’t wait for this new Insidious sequel!
\’and a solid cast of players including Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris, Nicholas Braun and Jared Harris.\’
You mentioned Jared Harris twice.
