Got a Tip?

‘The Wolverine’ Writer Mark Bomback Latest Scribe Brought In To Polish ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ As Start Date Pushed Back

As the story/rumors go, before he ultimately bailed on “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Charlie Hunnam suggested tweaks and fixes to the Kelly Marcel script for the erotica drama. Apparently, his feedback was well received until he started asking for script approval, and so it goes, he wound up leaving the project. But it seems his legacy was in spurring more work on the screenplay. Patrick Marber (“Closer,” “Notes On A Scandal“) was brought in to try and get things ready to shoot and now another writer has been hired to get this all locked up, so to speak.

The Wrap reports that Mark Bomback will now take a crack at the script, and this is following recent news from THR that the production start date has been pushed back a month from early November to December 2nd. Coincidence? We think not. Adding to the curiosity is that Bomback is hardly the first guy you would think about hiring for this kind of gig. His CV is mostly filled with (mediocre) action fare like “The Wolverine,” “Live Free Or Die Hard,” the “Total Recall” remake and “Race To Witch Mountain.” That being said, he did pen the steamy “Deception” starring Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman and Michelle Williams, but that was pretty poorly received. And given his history, we’re not sure how he’s going to make this better …

Will ‘Shades’ make its August 1, 2014 release date? Will Jamie Dornan handle the pressure? Will there be any further delays? We guess this much tension and teasing is appropriate for this kind of movie, but let’s hope the final result isn’t a mood killer.
