‘The Souvenir’ Exclusive Clip: Tilda Swinton Talks Politics At The Dinner Table In Joanna Hogg’s Beautiful Drama

Winning awards at film festivals, attracting acting talent such as Tilda Swinton, and being able to call Martin Scorsese a friend are all great indicators that you’re doing something right in your filmmaking career. Luckily for Joanna Hogg, she can claim all three of those feathers in her cap, thanks, in no small part, to the new semi-autobiographical drama “The Souvenir.”

With A24’s “The Souvenir” playing now in select theaters, we’re happy to debut an exclusive clip from the film. If you aren’t already anxiously awaiting “The Souvenir,” then watching actress Tilda Swinton discussing politics at the dinner table is likely to convince you, as she’s just incredible, even in one of the more awkward situations you can imagine.

“The Souvenir” tells the story of a young film student that finds herself in a relationship with an older man. As friends and family warn the young lady about the potential dangers of dating the untrustworthy man, she falls deeper and deeper in the relationship. The film is largely based on a real situation that filmmaker Hogg experienced, and that authenticity makes this film hit harder than most of the films you’ll see this year.

Hogg’s drama debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it received rave reviews from critics and earned the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize. Our review called the film “awe-inspiring.”

The film stars Honor Swinton Byrne, Tom Burke, and Tilda Swinton. As mentioned, “The Souvenir” is written and directed by Joanna Hogg. She’s probably best known for her films “Archipelago” and “Exhibition.”

Interestingly, a sequel to the film is already in the works, with Hogg bringing on Robert Pattinson to co-star.

“The Souvenir” is in select theaters now.
