Danny McBride has built a name for himself as a comedic star and writer. He has worked with Seth Rogen in a wide variety of films and has helmed several HBO series (“Eastbound & Down,” “Vice Principals“). He even has a bit of experience in horror, starring in “Alien: Covenant” and co-writing “Halloween Kills.” Not every one of his projects has hit, but he and his production company Rough House has garnered quite a bit of attention, including the series, “The Righteous Gemstones.”

McBrides’ most recent HBO series under Rough House, “The Righteous Gemstones,” has seen many of its prayers answered. The HBO dark comedy centering around a family of televangelists trying to expand their reach at the cost of smaller churches has a season that is quickly approaching. McBride returns as the series’ star, creator, executive producer, and one of the directors. His Jesse Gemstone will face new threats to his family’s stronghold over the televangelist space.
John Goodman, Adam Devine, Edi Patterson, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Skylar Gisondo, Tim Baltz, and Walton Goggins join McBride in returning for a second ride. The devotional is only growing, as veterans Eric Andre, Jason Schwartzman, Jessica Lowe, and Eric Roberts headline the show’s newcomers.
This already fraught and overzealous family looks like it will come to grips with its past all while trying to sell out more churches in the name of Christ. “The Righteous Gemstones” returns on January 9, 2022, on HBO. You can check out the second season’s teaser right here:
