Either producers Constantin Film are feeling optimistic that this summer’s YA hopeful “The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones” won’t go the way of “Beautiful Creatures” and “The Host” — both adaptations of best-selling books that no one really cared about — or they are just being smart and getting prepared in the event that on August 23rd, more people buy tickets for ‘Bones’ than for Edgar Wright‘s “The World’s End.” Whatever the reason, this is just what you do in Hollywood these days: you prepare for the eventuality of a franchise. And just as countless movies have done before (for example, “John Carter“) a followup is being readied so they can hit the ground running if they’ve got a hit on their hands.
THR reveals that Constantin has put an adaptation of “Infernal Devices” — based on the the prequel book series to ‘Bones’ — into development. We barely understand what ‘Bones’ is about, but ‘Devices’ apparently features character overlap, but since it’s set in Victorian England, includes ancestors of characters as well. Wouldn’t the smart play be to put the ‘Bones’ sequel into development instead? You would think so, but apparently at WonderCon, fans freaked out over the character of Clare, lining up to meet whoever was dressed up as her (i.e. it didn’t matter if it was Lily Collins or not — ouch).
But as always, a fanbase who loves the books doesn’t always translate to a fanbase who buys tickets to the movies. And more importantly, it’s the mainstream crowd — who don’t know a Mortal Instrument from an Infernal Device — who really needs to be sold on the picture and feel it’s worth their time.
Ooh! Look! He has some tribal tats! How mysterious! How shocking!
Are you seriously prefer this teenage crap over Edgar Wright? Well, it can be a flop you know, many teen books adaptations had flopped this year

In my opinion, the infernal devices is much better Series than the mortal instruments in many aspects, like the characters, story, plot, and setting (Victorian London does stand out as a much better/creative setting for YA novels than NYC). However, as much as I love this books and excited for City of bones movie, I have to say I don't want this book to become a movie. Why everything I read become a movie? At first it's amazing, but latter on it's getting quit annoying.
Literally cannot even contain my excitement!
I couldn't be more excited about this. Infernal devices is one of the best series that I have ever read, and if it makes it to the big screen, you can bet that I'll be there. Seriously though, if you haven't read these books, check them out. They're even better than mortal instruments. They take a bit to get into but once you've fallen for them, there's no going back. You won't regret it.
The script and everything for the sequel to city of bones, city of ashes is already done and the third one is in the works. I've read all the books out in the mortal instruments series, and they're fantastic. If they did the movie right, the movie really should do well. But on a side note, the prequel series, The Infernal Devices that is in the works, in my opinion, should be able to stand alone in it's own right for movies. The Infernal Devices series was pure genius, even better than mortal instruments. If the Infernal Devices never gets a chance to make it to the big screen just because mortal instruments doesn't do well, I will be very disappointed. These books deserve a film in their own right. They would add a very different vibe to these type of movies also being that it is set in Victorian England, making it all the better. Don't simply write off The infernal Devices as the prequel to Mortal Instruments, because it is far more. P.S. there are some crazy plot twists in both series which connect the two, making both even better.
Actually there are already plans for City of Bones sequels, City of Ashes and City of Glass. Of green-lit they will film them back-to-back. Jessica Postigo is working on both scripts. They would have to be prepared for Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel as the studio has discussed releasing them in publication order. Of course this all depends on the success of City of Bones.
