‘The Matrix Resurrections’ Trailer: Neo Has To Wake Up Again In The New Sequel From Lana Wachowski

We all know “The Matrix” franchise is getting a long-awaited sequel later this month, as “The Matrix Resurrections” is set to hit theaters and HBO Max simultaneously. But this isn’t just a reintroduction to the world and lore of “The Matrix” for fans, it’s also a reintroduction for Mr. Anderson, aka Neo.

As seen in the new trailer for “The Matrix Resurrections,” the story of the sequel once again follows Neo as he fights the evil that exists in the Matrix. However, this time, Neo has forgotten everything he’s learned previously when he “died,” and he now has to come back to join the freedom fighters against the machines that created the fake world and enslaved the human race. And the footage doesn’t shy away from showing just how similar this story is to the original ‘Matrix’ film, intercutting scenes and dialogue with that of the original, showing how filmmaker Lana Wachowski is making a reboot with plenty of self-awareness.

As mentioned, Lana Wachowski returns to direct ‘Resurrections.’ However, for the first time in this franchise, she’s not joined by her sister, director Lilly Wachowski. Instead, Lana Wachowski is going at it alone, but she is co-writing alongside David Mitchell and Aleksandar Hemon. The cast for “The Matrix Resurrections” features a number of returning faces including Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss. And joining the franchise for the first time are folks such as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff

“The Matrix Resurrections” is set to arrive in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. You can watch the new trailer below:
