‘The Lobster,’ ‘Macbeth,’ And ’45 Years’ Lead British Independent Film Award Nominations

While North America tends to be the epicenter of awards season fever, the U.K. feels it just as strongly at this time of year. And today, things heated up with the unveiling of the British Independent Film Awards, which as the name suggests, throws a spotlight on more arthouse minded pictures. Some of the year’s most acclaimed efforts, many of which shined on the festival circuit, are leading the way in 2015.

Right at the top of the list is Yorgos Lanthimos‘ star-studded curio, "The Lobster." The picture nabbed seven nominations, with mentions in key categories including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress.

Coming in behind, with six nominations each, are Justin Kurzel‘s "Macbeth" with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, and Andrew Haigh‘s "45 Years." They also scored Best Film and Best Director nods, plus recognition for the performances.

Other films getting multiple nods include Sundance sensation "Brooklyn," sci-fi hit "Ex Machina," and the Amy Winehouse documentary, "Amy." The awards will be handed out on December 6th. Check out the full list of nominees below.
