While film and TV content based on the comic book work of Mark Millar seems to be hit-or-miss, with “Jupiter’s Legacy” recently being canceled after only one season (a season that cost a reported $200 million), you can’t deny the popularity of his ‘Kingsman’ franchise, which has been brought to life by filmmaker Matthew Vaughn. Now, after two films in the spy film series starring Taron Edgerton, Vaughn’s next entry in the franchise goes back more than 100 years in “The King’s Man.”

And with the long-awaited release of “The King’s Man” seemingly now set for December, 20th Century Studios is promoting the film with a look at how the prequel film fits in the grand scheme of the ‘Kingsman’ universe. As mentioned, instead of following the continued exploits of Eggsy (Edgerton), who is the newest member of the super-secret agency of British spies, “The King’s Man” looks back at the creation of the group, as a new breed of spy is needed to stop some of history’s worst tyrants.
The prequel film stars Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou, and Charles Dance. As with the previous two ‘Kingsman’ features, “The King’s Man,” comes from director Matthew Vaughn.
After a number of delays, mostly attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic, “The King’s Man” will now arrive in theaters on December 22. You can watch the new footage below.
Here’s the synopsis:
As a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds gather to plot a war to wipe out millions, one man must race against time to stop them. Discover the origins of the very first independent intelligence agency in “The King’s Man.”
