Doug Liman is working hard right now on his “Road House” remake with Jake Gyllenhaal for Amazon. But after that, he enters the world of Apple Original Films for his next feature. Apple announced today that Liman’s next film will be “The Instigators,” which sees the director reteam with “The Bourne Identity” lead Matt Damon.
Damon and Casey Affleck co-star in the upcoming film about two thieves who gun on the run with the help of their therapist after a robbery goes awry. “City On A Hill” scribe Chuck Maclean pens the script, with Affleck co-producing with Jeff Robinov and John Graham through Studio 8. Damon also co-produces with Casey’s brother Ben Affleck through their newly minted Artists Equity banner. Meanwhile, Kevin Walsh co-produces through The Walsh Company as part of his multi-year Apple TV+ overall deal.
“The Instigators” sees more than just Damon and Liman reunite. It also reunites Damon, Casey Affleck, and Walsh following their collaboration on “Manchester By The Sea.” The upcoming film joins a burgeoning slate of other Apple Original Films produced by Apple Studios, including upcoming films like Martin Scorsese‘s “Killers Of The Flower Moon” and Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon.”
Damon’s recent work includes “The Last Duel” and a cameo on “Thor: Love And Thunder.” Affleck stars in “Dreamin’ Wild,” which had its world premiere at TIFF in September. Both actors star in Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming blockbuster “Oppenheimer.” Beyond that, Affleck has “Slingshot” forthcoming, while Damon has his Nike film with Ben Affleck.
