But if you’re sick of real-world politics and want to take a trip into an alternate version of a US election cycle, Peacock invites you to watch “The Independent.”

As seen in the clip for “The Independent,” the film follows the story of a young journalist and her mentor who are trying to uncover a conspiracy that could potentially change the course of the upcoming presidential election between the first female in office and the first viable independent. The cast for “The Independent” includes Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian Cox, John Cena, and Ann Dowd. The film is directed by Amy Rice, who is probably best known for her documentary work, which includes the 2009 film, “By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.”

“The Independent” arrives on Peacock on November 2. You can watch the clip below.

Here’s the synopsis:

It’s the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election in history. America is poised to elect either its first female president (Ann Dowd) or its first viable independent candidate (John Cena). Reporting history as it’s made, an idealistic young journalist (Jodie Turner-Smith) teams up with her idol, legendary journalist Nick Booker (Brian Cox), to uncover a conspiracy that places the fate of the election, and the country, in their hands.
