While audiences anxious await Anne Hathaway‘s next performance in James Gray‘s “Armageddon Time,” in theaters this October, there’s news about one of her upcoming roles. Deadline reports that Hathaway will team up with “The Eyes Of Tammy Faye” director Michael Showalter for a new project for Amazon Prime Video. So, what’s the project? “The Idea Of You,” based on Robinne Lee‘s 2017 novel of the same name.
“The Idea Of You” follows Sophie, a 40-year-old divorced mother whose husband left her for a young woman. After her ex-husband cancels his Coachella trip with their 15-year-old daughter, Sophie takes his place instead, braving the crowds and desert heat. At the festival, however, she meets 24-year-old Hayes Campbell, the lead singer of August Moon, the biggest boy band on the planet. Sparks fly between her and Campbell, but beside their considerable age gap, one major problem: Sophie’s daughter idolizes the pop star.
So far, only Hathaway and Showalter are connected to the project besides Jennifer Westfeldt, who pens the script. Westfeldlt is coming off her directorial debut “Friends With Kids,” which she also wrote the script for. She also write “Kissing Jessica Stein.”
Showalter made his big splash in directing with the 2017 film “The Big Sick.” He was recently nominated for an Emmy for his work on the Hulu limited series “The Dropout.” He also directs the upcoming film “Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies,” based on the bestselling book by Micahel Ausiello. That film, starring Jim Parsons and Sally Field, hits theaters on December 2.
Meanwhile, Hathaway recently starred in the Apple TV+ series “WeCrashed” with Jared Leto. Up next, Hathaway stars in two thrillers: “Eileen,” currently in post-production, and “Mother’s Instinct,” filming now.
Amazon must be high on “The Idea Of You,” as they outbid other streamers for it in a recent auction. So, will their purchase pay off? Production on the film begins in October, so Prime Video members will likely find out in the latter third of 2023.
