The Horror! Dimension Picks Up ‘Livid’; ‘Dibbuk Box’ Becomes ‘The Possession’ & ‘Massacre’ Adds 3

Here’s some updates from the horror world to scare you silly or at least inform you.

With the fourth installment in the “Scream” series proving there’s still some fire left and the sequel “Piranha 3DD” currently circling in the waters, the Weinsteins‘ genre production shingle Dimension Films is looking overseas to expand their holdings of scare films, according to Variety. Dimension has acquired “Livid” from “Inside” directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, and the French pic is being described as a “horror fairytale” set on Halloween night. Hopefully Dimension Films can get this out by October, because frankly there hasn’t been a decent Halloween film since Michael Dougherty’s “Trick R’ Treat” and we’d be hard pressed to recommend one other than John Carpenter’s original “Halloween.” For those living in le beau pays, the movie opens on November 2nd.

Sam Raimi’s latest outing as a producer of middling horror thrillers, “Dibbuk Box,” has officially been renamed “The Possession,” according to Shock Till You Drop. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick are set to star in this fictionalization of an L.A. Times article about a mysterious antique box brought to the United States by a Holocaust survivor following World War II. Supposedly the box carries some sort of evil spirit, and we can pretty much guess where the film goes from there. The name change will allow Morgan the rare distinction, paired with his recent “The Resident,” of starring in two generically titled horror films within the span of one year. “The Possession” will hit in 2012.

In what is perhaps the least interesting news making the horror circuit, actresses Sue Rock and Tania Raymond along with Clint Eastwood‘s son, Scott Eastwood, have been cast in “Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.” From “Takers” auteur John Luessenhop comes another reboot or whatever to Tobe Hooper’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” only this time in three whole dimensions. Rock is set to star as Arlene, while Raymond will be filling the best friend role of the film’s lead Alexandra Daddario and Eastwood plays Carl, and has made a deal for three movies which means, you guessed it, FRANCHISE!. Regardless, this will probably be pretty terrible and we’ll be wondering why Lionsgate didn’t at least go with a more interesting horror director like Ti West or even Hooper himself.
