Peter Jackson‘s return to Middle Earth with "The Hobbit" trilogy wasn’t exactly triumphant. Oh sure, the three movies earned just a shade under $3 billion at the box office, but the reception was middling, the high tech pizzazz wasn’t as special this time around, and frankly, many wondered why we needed three more movies spun from a thin novella. At any rate, if you wanted even more, well, Christmas is in October this year.
Warner Bros. and Fathom Events are bringing the extended editions of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," "The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug," and "The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies" to cinemas starting October 5th. Presumably it will be one film per night but it’s not clear if this will be on consecutive evenings or one each week. And if you’re wondering why Warner Bros. is even bothering with this, it’s a pretty good way to promote the extended edition of ‘Battle’ which hits home video on November 3rd.
