Got a Tip?

‘The Hateful Eight’ Teaser Trailer Will Have No Footage, Will Just Be A Bunch Of Title Cards And A Stooges Song

Tarantino, hateful eightThis weekend, "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" opens, but more importantly, the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller neo-noir thriller will be preceded in theaters by a teaser for Quentin Tarantino‘s forthcoming western, "The Hateful Eight," even though the film hasn’t even started shooting yet. Speculation has abounded that maybe QT cut some material together just for this promo. Or maybe he’d be using some material from a live read of the script he held in April (check out our review). But alas, it seems like the promo will be comprised of a bunch of title cards.

Collider secured a trailer description, and evidently the "Dame’ audience will be seeing a lot of text, numbers and a country song. Here’s the relevant excerpt from their report:

As for the trailer, it contains no footage. It opens on snow dunes, a western-style ballad with titles* about strangers being stranded in a blizzard, but “They soon discovered they shared a deadly connection” (blood spatters on titles). The western ballad begins to rock (I can’t identify the song) as the title comes up “The New Film by Quentin Tarantino”; then it lists the Hateful Eight: [ed. the song is actually The Stooges‘ "Gimmie Danger"]

  1. Major Marquis Warren: “The Bounty Hunter”
  2. John Ruth: “The Hangman”
  3. Daisy Domergue: “The Prisoner”
  4. Chris Mannix: “The Sheriff”
  5. Bob: “The Mexican”
  6. Oswald Mobray: “The Little Man”
  7. Joe Gage: “The Cow Puncher”
  8. General Sandy Smithers: “The Confederate”

Then we see bloody numbers count up to “8″, which leads to “8 MAKES HATE”.  Gunshots then shoot off “makes” then “hate” before the title turns to “The H8Ful Eight”.  The music returns to a more classic western tune (there’s whistling), and puts up “From Academy Award Winner Quentin Tarantino”.

And then, the screen fills with “See It in Glorious 70mm {Super Cinemascope}”

Finally, the title “2015″ comes up, and fade to black.  End trailer;

Apparently, this promo won’t be posted online, but…not much to miss, huh? No official release date yet, but we’d wager it’ll be late December 2015 before the finished movie arrives in cinemas.

  1. "Won't be posted online"… yeah, right. Despite the army of lawyers ready to issue takedown notices and threats, it'll spread like wildfire.

  2. Tarantino really going old fashioned for the marketing on this one: full page announcement ad in magazines, super early teaser with a bunch of still frames and music, and of course, the '70mm super cinemascope'.
