Got a Tip?

‘The Hateful Eight’ Is About 3 Hours Long Plus Watch Quentin Tarantino Talk Police Brutality On Bill Maher

The Hateful EightA new trailer dropped last week, and while The Weinstein Company wishes everyone would be talking about Quentin Tarantino‘s "The Hateful Eight," the bigger discussion right now is around the director’s fight against police brutality. It’s a stance that has seen him earn the ire of police organizations around the country, who probably aren’t helping their perception by issuing a warning that "something is in the works" and they have a "surprise" in store for the filmmaker. As far as PR moves go, it’s staggeringly unaware and certainly doesn’t help the perception that the police have failed to understand what has been a growing concern and issue. This weekend, Tarantino continued to elaborate on his thoughts about police brutality with a visit to "Real Time" with Bill Maher.

“[The police] are calling me a cop hater, which is slander because I didn’t say that. And they are implying that I meant that all cops are murderers, and I wasn’t. But the sad thing is we do have to talk to the cops about this,” Tarantino said. “We have to get to the problem and get this on the table.”
“We need to talk to the cops about this, we need to get to the problem,” he added.

However, even though his attention is elsewhere at the moment, the marketing and awards season campaign must continue for "The Hateful Eight." Deadline recently hosted a big awards event with studios and producers rolling out their contenders, and some tidbits along the way. Among them, that "The Hateful Eight" — which is coming in two flavors — will run about 3 hours long (hardly a surprise for a movie that has already announced an intermission for the roadshow version), as well as The Weinstein Company’s commitment to outfit around 100 cinemas with projects to show the movie in 70mm.

"The Hateful Eight" rolls out in analog first on Christmas Day, before hitting multiplex digitally on January 8th. Watch Tarantino on Bill Maher below. Update 11/29: the movie is officially 3 hours and 7 minutes long and that includes a 12 minute intermission in the middle of the movie.

  1. 3 Hours – no thanks ? Seriously? And people are on a film site & they are complaining about Length ?
"Ow .. It hurts my Head to think that long. Oh NO, I won\’t be able to see my Phone for 3 HOURS ? That\’s Inhumnan punishment"
No wonder there is nothing but Garbage in Theatres anymore. Look at what is out there and called "Audiences".
    Geez – 3 hours without a Selfie.

  2. THey always talk about police \’brutality\’, in recent times it\’s usually about some idiot who came after a cop and got himself shot. However, that\’s fine if they want to talk about it. Here\’s something else to talk about, there\’s hundreds of murders a year related to these urban communities. You don\’t see videos of it. There are only so many protests of it and you don\’t see them on the news, certainly not rioting. More people are killed by gang violence and I still barely see any of it reported on the news.I don\’t know why. I guess protesting the death of some 8 year old kid in Chicago by 4 gang thugs isn\’t edgy or something you can use politically.

  3. 3 hours long? Take out all of Taratino\’s "Look at how cool I am" shots/scenes/indulgences that he\’s lifted from other films and you\’ll end up with a 12-minute film.

  4. Tarantino apparently doesn\’t understand that cops risk their lives to keep us safe so to bash them makes him a moron. His films should be boycotted!!!

  5. I think the real story here is that the film is 3 hours long! There\’s no way Kevin the Gerbil can last that long without piddling – we\’ll have to wait till we can watch it at home.

  6. Why aren\’t cops brave? Now you can\’t hit a cop or grab his baton without getting shot? Are these guys insane??? Then they start citing tv shows where cops get into fights! Life isn\’t TV guys. Exactly why QT can make his violent films and say, well it\’s a movie it\’s not real life. And then he uses tv shows as examples of how cops should act when they are attacked. If you get punched by someone that is an act that could cause SBI (serious bodily injury) which includes Unconsciousness in its definition and by law can be met with deadly force. Because if a cop or anyone for that matter gets knocked out, they are completely vulnerable to more violence. That is standard across the country on deadly force situations and not just by cops but by citizens too. I want someone to punch these two idiots and then see how "brave" they are.
