Old people is the new black. With "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" becoming a sleeper smash, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger continuing to kick butt for the retirement set, and "Stand Up Guys" vying for some Oscars, another movie is on the way with some old dudes trying some young people tricks.
Production is underway on "Last Vegas" starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline and CBS Films has dropped a first look at their cast which they note "have garnered a total of six Oscar® wins and 14 nominations and accumulated over an estimated $16.6 billion at the worldwide box office." As for what it's all about, the synopsis is pretty much exactly what the title would suggest: The ensemble comedy follows four old friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single.
Dan Fogelman ("Crazy Stupid Love") penned the script, with Jon Turteltaub directing and Romany Malco, Mary Steenburgen, Jerry Ferrara and more rounding out the cast. "Last Vegas" rolls the dice on December 20, 2013.
After seeing Stand Up Guys over the weekend, it's simply not close to being an Oscar quality film. But Christopher Walken is excellent, and slightly more subdued than we're used to.
