So, what are you going to do while you’re waiting until 2016 for "Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice"? Well, Fox hopes that your itch for Bruce Wayne and co. will be scratched with their DC Comics series "Gotham" and they are promoting the hell out of it. Later this month they’ll be at the San Diego Comic-Con to unveil more goodies, but first is a new teaser for the show, and the key word here is: brooding.
The eternally stoic Ben McKenzie ("The O.C.," "Southland") takes the lead here as Detective James Gordon, in a story set in the world of Batman… before he was Batman. Indeed, the series will start off a young Bruce Wayne, tracking his rise while Gordon battles all manner of classic villains like Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Penguin, or at least the pre-costumed versions of them. It’s an interesting gamble, one that hopes audiences will be invested enough to wait a few seasons for the Batsignal to appear, and that Gordon himself will be enough to anchor the series.
Thoughts? You know where to go. Watch below along with some character posters — "Gotham" debuts on September 22nd. [Deadline/EW]
Part of me wants it to succeed but the other part knows it'll likely get a single season before the axe falls.
A shame Donal Logue isn't in a higher demand though – television or otherwise. That guy is a fantastic character actor.
Also, that image is one of the first times ever I've not immediately recognized Jada Pinkett Smith.
