Got a Tip?

‘The Flash’ Final Trailer: Worlds Collide, But Will Ezra Miller Continue In New DC Studios Era?

How many trailers have there been for Warner Bros. The Flash” film? It feels like at least three, but either way, the Speedster superhero movie has received its final trailer now. But it speaks to what DC Studios are feeling: confidence. By all accounts, “The Flash,” which already screened at CinemaCon in the spring and recently screened for film critics again, is a big crowd-pleasing hit. Warner and DC are feeling really, really good about the movie they have on their hands, but the biggest question remains: what happens with Ezra Miller given the actor’s two-year news cycle of arrests, erratic behavior, and magazine exposé about his troubling exploits?

Well, one would think “The Flash” is a hit, so he’s ok. But the reality still seems more complicated. “Guardians Of The Galaxy” filmmaker James Gunn is the co-head of DC Studios now and has seemingly ditched all the old-guard stuff from the Zack Snyder era and planted the flag for new, new, new.

Take his recent DC Studios “Gods and Monsters,” chapter one announcement. Not one film from the previous era was announced, not “Wonder Woman 3,” not “Aquaman 3,” and certainly not a “Flash 2” movie. And we already know that Henry Cavill is no longer Superman, and Ben Affleck says goodbye to his Batman character in “The Flash” movie. So what comes after that? It remains a mystery for now, and it’ll surely depend on whether “The Flash” is the big multi-million dollar hit the studio thinks it is.

Meanwhile, on top of Ezra Miller and Affleck, the movie also features Michael Keaton from the Tim Burton era, Michael Shannon returning as Zod, and Sasha Calle as Supergirl (Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, and Antje Traue, co-star).

Here’s the official synopsis, but yes, this movie is all about the multiverse and time travel which, of course, messes up the present.

Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

Directed by Andy Muschietti (“IT” movie), “The Flash” races into theaters on June 16. Watch the final trailer below via Warner Bros.
