Universal Pictures is best known for its massively popular “Fast & Furious” franchise and the “Jurassic World” series, but the studio is looking to add one more action brand to its slate with “The Fall Guy.” The film will be directed by David Leitch (“Deadpool 2”), who helmed the “Fast & Furious” spinoff “Hobbs & Shaw,” with A-list actors Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt set to star.
But the superstar cast is growing. Another casting addition has been announced for “The Fall Guy” as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kraven The Hunter”) has joined the pic. Taylor-Johnson will play the movie star that Gosling’s stuntman is doubling for, while Blunt is in the role of a prosthetic make-up artist that has a romantic past with Gosling’s lead character.

Screenwriter Drew Pearce (“Iron Man 3”) penned the film’s script, based on the 1980s television series centered on a film stuntman, played by Lee Majors, moonlighting as a bounty hunter when stunt work gets slow.
Leitch and Taylor-Johnson worked together on Sony’s Japanese-set action flick, “Bullet Train,” which starred Brad Pitt. That role helped the actor land the titular role on Sony’s comic book film “Kraven The Hunter,” focused on the longtime “Spider-Man” villain from director J.C Chandor and comes out next year.
Gosling is also attached to co-star with Margot Robbie in an “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel at Warner Bros. and to lead a new “Wolf Man” film for Universal. Blunt has recently been the face of “A Quiet Place” franchise and is said to be returning for a sequel to Disney’s adventure movie “Jungle Cruise” alongside Dwayne Johnson.
With “Fast & Furious” winding down as “Fast & Furious 11” is expected to be the final main installment, the studio seeking future action franchises like “The Fall Guy” could help fill a void in the studio’s slate as they try to figure out various spinoffs.
