British actress Jodie Comer (“The Last Duel“) is set to lead a new London-set apocalypse thriller from director Mahalia Belo (“The Long Song“) and Benedict Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch that is based on the Megan Hunter novel “The End We Start From.” The pic’s script is also being adapted by “Succession” writer Alice Birch and sees characters navigating a mysterious environmental crisis in London as the city becomes submerged by flood waters.
There is now news that Comer is getting an exciting co-star as Deadline reports that Katherine Waterston (“Inherent Vice,” “Logan Lucky“) has nabbed a role, playing the character of O.
Waterston has dabbled with the sci-fi genre in the past and was the female lead in Ridley Scott‘s “Alien: Covenant” which ended on a cliffhanger for a third “Alien” prequel that was never made. She most recently took a role alongside Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Olivia Wilde, and Tobey Maguire in director Damien Chazelle’s high-profile Hollywood period epic, “Babylon,” which focuses on the transition from silent films to “talkies.”
Below is a synopsis of the novel via publisher Pan Macmillan:
“In the midst of a mysterious environmental crisis, as London is submerged below flood waters, a woman gives birth to her first child. Days later, the family is forced to leave their home in search of safety. As they move from place to place, shelter to shelter, their journey traces both fear and wonder as the baby’s small fists grasp at the things he sees, as he grows and stretches, thriving and content against all the odds.“
It’s unclear if Cumberbatch himself will take a role in “The End We Start From” but filming is already underway in the United Kingdom and more casting is expected to be announced soon.
